Medeama’s 2026/27 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League campaign has come to an end after they suffered a 3-1 defeat to TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi on Saturday, September 12.
The result gave the Congolese giants a 4-1 aggregate victory after they had also won the first leg 1-0 at the TnA Stadium in Ghana.
Medeama travelled to the Stade TP Mazembe needing to overturn the first-leg deficit, but the Ghanaian champions struggled to cope with the hosts’ strong start.
Mazembe took the lead in the 16th minute through Patrick Mwanungulu. The forward took advantage of the home side’s early pressure to put Medeama on the back foot.
The hosts doubled their lead just eight minutes later when Kazema Baso found the net to make it 2-0 on the night.
Medeama needed at least two goals to keep their hopes of progressing alive, but they were unable to find a response before the break.
Mazembe continued to control the game in the second half and eventually put the tie beyond doubt in the 78th minute.
Mwanungulu completed his brace with his second goal of the match, giving Mazembe a commanding 3-0 lead and making Medeama’s task even more difficult.
The Ghanaian side managed to score a consolation goal in the 87th minute through Dominic Amponsah, but it was not enough to change the outcome of the tie.
Mazembe held on to secure a 3-1 victory on the night and progress with a 4-1 aggregate win.
The defeat brings an early end to Medeama’s Champions League campaign and will be a disappointing result for the Ghanaian champions, who had hoped to make progress in Africa.
Medeama will now turn their attention to domestic football, where they will look to defend their Ghana Premier League title and recover from their continental disappointment.
