Cesc Fabregas has overseen a remarkable transformation at Como, taking the Italian club from Serie B football to the UEFA Champions League in just a few seasons.
The former Chelsea, Barcelona and Spain midfielder joined Como as a player in 2022 before moving into coaching.
His influence has grown steadily, with the Spaniard becoming one of the key figures behind the club’s rise.
Como secured promotion to Serie A in 2024 after spending time in Italy’s second tier. The club then continued its rapid progress and finished fourth in Serie A last season, earning a historic place in the Champions League.
That journey reached another major milestone on Thursday when Como made its Champions League debut against RB Leipzig.
Fabregas’ side produced a stunning performance at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, beating the German club 4-1 to record their first-ever victory in the competition.
Martin Baturina, Tasos Douvikas, Assane Diao and Maxi Perrone were on target for Como.
The result marked another important step in a remarkable rise for a club that was playing in Italy’s fourth division just seven years ago.
Fabregas has played a major role in building the team’s identity. His approach focuses on possession, pressing, technical quality and the development of young players.
Como president, Mirwan Suwarso has also previously described Fabregas as a central figure in the club’s long-term project, with the Spaniard involved in both coaching and sporting decisions.
