Parliament will today, Monday, August 24, resume sitting following a recall by Speaker Alban Bagbin to consider urgent parliamentary business.
The special sitting comes less than a month after the House adjourned on July 31, with lawmakers expected to return to the Chamber to deliberate on matters that cannot wait until the next scheduled sitting.
Speaker Bagbin invoked Order 58(4) of Parliament’s Standing Orders, which gives the Speaker the authority to recall Parliament during an adjournment when circumstances require the House to reconvene.
The special session is scheduled to run from Monday, August 24, to Friday, August 28.
Among the key matters expected before Parliament are the nominations of Mahama Ayariga as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology.
The House is also expected to consider other pressing matters requiring parliamentary attention during the five-day sitting.
