Salomey Awiti Baffoe granted GH¢100,000 bail

Salomey Awiti Baffoe, the senior nursing officer facing charges in connection with the “Ghana Jollof” social media case, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 by the Adenta Circuit Court.

The bail comes with two sureties, who must be civil servants earning monthly salaries of at least GH¢3,000.

Baffoe, 40, was arrested in September and subsequently remanded after being charged with abetment of crime over the alleged publication and circulation of false news. She has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Prosecutors allege that Baffoe acted as a liaison for UK-based TikTok personality Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, popularly known as “Ghana Jollof”, and assisted in recruiting individuals to redistribute videos linked to the account on social media.

Her initial bid for bail was rejected by the Accra High Court on September 24. The court cited concerns that her release at the time could interfere with witnesses and ongoing cyber-related investigations.

The development sparked public concern, with residents and traditional leaders from Jema, her community in the Bono East Region, calling for her release and describing her as a responsible member of the community.
