The Ghana Education Service (GES) has suspended two watchmen from Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School following allegations of sexual assault against a special needs student at the school.

The two watchmen have also been referred to the police to aid in the investigation of the incident.

As reported by the GES, the student was on medication and experienced a relapse and required medical care on the day of the alleged assault.

It was during this time, the Service stated, that the alleged sexual assault took place.

The GES indicated that it has promptly taken administrative measures by suspending the two watchmen while the police carry out further inquiries into the situation.

A statement released by the Service on Thursday, August 20, 2026, mentioned that a comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

It further noted that the results of the investigations will dictate the appropriate penalties in accordance with the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana.

The Service has also warned all staff to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and to ensure the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of every student.
