Six people have sustained injuries after a Toyota Corolla fell into the Birim River at Biremso along the Accra–Kumasi Highway.
The incident took place on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, near the Anyinasin Junction.
In a Facebook update on Wednesday, August 19, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reported that its Bunso Fire Station received an emergency call regarding the incident at 9:04 am and promptly dispatched a team to the location.
An eyewitness informed the fire officers that he heard a loud crash and hurried to the scene, where he discovered the black Toyota Corolla, bearing registration number GR 1425-18, submerged in the river.
Members of the public had already rescued the occupants before the fire crew arrived, who then transported them to the Hawa Saviour Memorial Hospital for medical care.
All six occupants, all male, suffered injuries. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
The vehicle was entirely wrecked in the accident, and several personal items were retrieved from the debris.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
