Heavy rains have brought traffic on the Accra–Kumasi highway to a complete standstill after floodwaters submerged sections of the road.
The flooding has cut across the highway, effectively splitting the carriageway and leaving hundreds of motorists stranded in long queues on both sides.
Commuters are experiencing severe delays as rising water levels have made the busy intercity route impassable.
Speaking in an interview on Monday, June 29, Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak said the rains are expected to continue until midday, in line with forecasts from weather authorities.
He urged the public to prioritise their safety and avoid unnecessary travel through flooded areas.
The minister also called on all emergency and security agencies to work together to protect lives and property as the situation develops.
