President John Dramani Mahama has nominated two Members of Parliament for appointment as Ministers of State and also announced changes to some ministerial portfolios.
The nominations were made in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, which requires the President to submit the names of proposed Ministers of State to Parliament for prior approval.
In a statement signed by the President’s spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President nominated Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, MP for Klottey Korle, as Minister of State for the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology.
The President also nominated Mahama Ayariga, MP for Bawku Central, as Minister of State for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
The nominations are now subject to consideration and approval by Parliament before the nominees can officially assume their roles.
President Mahama has also reassigned two ministers to new portfolios as part of adjustments within his administration.
Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has been reassigned to serve as Minister for Defence, while Ahmed Ibrahim, MP, has been moved to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
The Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology plays a major role in addressing environmental challenges, promoting scientific development and supporting policies aimed at sustainable growth.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs oversees important areas including decentralisation, traditional leadership matters and coordination between central government and local authorities.
The Defence Ministry remains one of the country’s critical institutions, responsible for managing national security and the operations of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources is also a key sector, with responsibilities including housing development, infrastructure projects and water management.
Parliament is expected to begin the approval process for the newly nominated Ministers of State in line with constitutional requirements.
