Ashanti Region delivered a dominant performance to record the biggest win of the latest round of matches, defeating Upper West Region 5-1, while Central Region produced a dramatic comeback victory and Volta Region boosted their qualification hopes with a crucial win.
Playing in front of their home supporters, Ashanti Region were in outstanding form from the start. Ngozi Becca starred with a first-half brace to put the hosts firmly in control before the break.
Gloria Owusu added to the tally as Ashanti continued to pile pressure on their opponents.
Upper West Region struggled to contain Ashanti’s attacking play for much of the match, with Rahinatu Salifu scoring their only goal as the hosts completed an emphatic 5-1 victory to strengthen their position in the competition.
Elsewhere, Volta Region claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over GFA Elite Academy. Ganyo Forgive scored the decisive goal to hand Volta all three points and move them above the academy into fourth place in the standings. The victory keeps Volta firmly in contention as the race for qualification intensifies.
One of the most exciting matches of the day saw Central Region fight back twice to defeat Western Region 3-2.
Western made the brighter start when Francisca opened the scoring, but Rosemond Twum equalised for Central before halftime. Patience Amponsah restored Western’s advantage in the second half, only for Angelina Sam to level the score once again.
With the match heading towards a draw, Aishatu Yushua struck a late winner to complete a remarkable comeback for Central Region.
In another Group B encounter, Eastern Region and Northern Region played out a goalless draw after regulation time. Eastern eventually triumphed 4-3 in the penalty shootout, but the result was not enough to dislodge Northern Region from the top of the group.
