Normal activities have resumed at the Krobo Nursing Training College near Techiman following a violent student demonstration that resulted in injuries to a police officer and the arrest of two students, the Bono East Regional Police Command has confirmed.
In a statement released on July 29, 2026, the Police said the protest took place on Monday, July 27, after students allegedly organised a demonstration without notifying the Police, contrary to the requirements of Ghana’s Public Order Act.
According to the statement, the Police had received prior intelligence about the planned protest and dispatched officers to the campus to engage student leaders.
The discussions were aimed at resolving the situation peacefully and discouraging the planned march.
However, despite the engagement, the students reportedly proceeded with the demonstration and marched towards the Techiman township.
The Regional Police Command stated that the protest later turned violent when some demonstrators allegedly began throwing stones at police officers, police vehicles and members of the public.
During the unrest, one police officer sustained injuries while attempting to maintain order.
Police said the escalating violence compelled officers to fire warning shots into the air to disperse the crowd and prevent further destruction and injuries.
Following the incident, two students were arrested in connection with the alleged attack.
They were identified as 27-year-old Paulina Felayire and 21-year-old Gabriel Boadu.
The Police said both suspects remain in custody and are assisting investigators as inquiries into the disturbance continue.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the students’ protest was sparked by dissatisfaction over the quality and availability of meals served at the nursing training college.
To prevent any further disturbances, the Bono East Regional Police Command has deployed additional security personnel to the school and surrounding communities to ensure peace and protect lives and property.
