The Government has secured employment opportunities for 300 Ghanaian teachers in the Commonwealth of the Bahamas under a new bilateral agreement aimed at strengthening cooperation in education and expanding labour mobility between the two countries.
The announcement was made by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, following bilateral talks with the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Philip Edward Davis.
According to the Foreign Affairs Minister, the deployment of the teachers will begin later this year and marks the first phase of a broader education partnership between Ghana and the Caribbean nation.
He explained that the decision by the Bahamian government to recruit Ghanaian teachers was influenced by the outstanding performance of Ghanaian nurses already working in the country under a similar labour agreement.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, July 11, Mr Ablakwa said Bahamian authorities had expressed satisfaction with the professionalism, dedication and work ethic demonstrated by Ghanaian nurses, prompting them to expand the partnership to include teachers.
“It gives us much pride to highlight that Bahamian authorities are deeply impressed with the excellent work ethic of Ghanaian nurses serving under a similar agreement,” he stated.
The Foreign Affairs Minister described the initiative as the beginning of a new chapter in labour cooperation that will create more employment opportunities for skilled Ghanaian professionals while strengthening ties between the two nations.
Mr Ablakwa also highlighted the historical relationship between Ghana and the Bahamas, noting that many Bahamians trace their ancestry and heritage to Ghana.
He said this shared history provides a strong foundation for closer collaboration in education, healthcare, trade and other sectors.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to using diplomacy to create tangible opportunities for Ghanaians.
“We shall continue to actively pursue impactful diplomacy which directly benefits the Ghanaian people. For God and Country,” he said.
