NPC appeals for support after floods damage Accra office

The National Peace Council (NPC) has called on the government, development partners, businesses and the public to help restore its operations after severe flooding damaged its head office in Accra.

The Council’s Executive Secretary, Dr. George Amoh, said the institution urgently needs support to replace furniture, equipment and other essential items destroyed by the floods so it can continue its work of promoting peace, dialogue and conflict prevention across the country.

The appeal comes after the heavy rains of Monday, June 29, 2026, flooded parts of Accra and caused significant damage to the Council’s headquarters.

According to the NPC, floodwaters entered several offices, including the Executive Secretary’s office, as well as a number of directorates and storage rooms.

The flooding destroyed office furniture, damaged electronic equipment and affected official documents, disrupting the Council’s daily activities.

Dr. Amoh worked alongside staff members to rescue equipment and retrieve important documents from the flooded offices in an effort to reduce the extent of the damage.

After assessing the situation, he described the impact of the floods as a major setback to the institution’s operations.

“We are appealing to the government, development partners, corporate organisations and well-meaning individuals to support us in replacing the damaged furniture, equipment and other essential items so that normal operations can be restored as quickly as possible,” he said.

Despite the losses, Dr. Amoh assured the public that the Council remains committed to carrying out its constitutional responsibility of promoting peaceful coexistence, mediation, dialogue and conflict prevention.

He expressed optimism that with timely assistance from stakeholders, the National Peace Council would recover from the disaster and continue supporting peace and social harmony across Ghana.
