An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a Nigerian trader, Ada Peace, to seven years in prison for human trafficking and immigration-related crimes.
The conviction followed an operation by the Ghana Immigration Service, which rescued two victims aged 21 and 13.
Immigration officials said Ada Peace allegedly brought the victims from Nigeria to Ghana after promising them job opportunities.
However, investigations revealed that she exploited them sexually and forced them into prostitution instead.
The Ghana Immigration Service explained that the case reflects its continued efforts to combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable people from abuse.
Officials described the judgment as a major victory in the fight against human trafficking, migrant smuggling, and other related offences.
The Service reaffirmed its commitment to tracking down offenders and ensuring they face justice. It also pledged to strengthen measures that protect vulnerable people from exploitation.
Authorities have removed the two victims from the trafficking network. They are currently receiving the care and support they need as they recover from their ordeal.
