Korle Bu doctors call off strike

The Korle Bu Doctors Association has ended its strike, which started on the morning of Monday, May 4, 2026.

The decision followed promises from hospital management that Laboratory Physicians would return to their duties.

In a formal letter to the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, the Association explained why it took this step.

Leaders met with management on Monday morning, and during that meeting, management assured them that Laboratory Physicians would be assigned back to the Central Laboratory.

The strike had affected Out-Patient services at the hospital, but the Association has now asked all its members to go back to work. Doctors are expected to resume their normal duties from Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

The statement, signed by Dr. Asare Offei, Chairman of the Association, emphasised the importance of teamwork.

“We believe the peaceful coexistence of Laboratory Physicians and Medical Laboratory Scientists at the Central Laboratory is best for quality healthcare delivery,” it said.

The Association also urged its members to restart Out-Patient services from the stated date.

They shared the notice with key officials, including the Director of Medical Affairs, the Director of Human Resource, and the Board Chair of the hospital. Media organisations and the general public also received copies.

Many patients who depend on the hospital’s outpatient services will welcome this quick resolution. Management is expected to provide more information soon about the assurances given during the meeting.
