Interior Ministry lifts ban on motorbike use in Binduri

The Ministry of the Interior has lifted the ban on the use of motorbikes in Binduri Township and nearby communities in the Upper East Region.

The decision ends a security restriction that has been in place for over a month.

Authorities introduced the ban on April 28, 2026, after an attack on a Ghana Armed Forces convoy in the area. The incident led to the deaths of three civilians.

Security officials said they imposed the restriction to help restore calm and support ongoing operations in the region.

In a statement released on Tuesday, June 16, the Ministry announced that residents can now use motorbikes again without any restrictions.

“The Ministry of the Interior wishes to inform residents of Binduri Township and its environs in the Upper East Region that the restriction on the use of motorbikes imposed on April 28, 2026, has been lifted with immediate effect,” the statement said.

The government had earlier included the ban as part of wider security measures introduced after the attack. Authorities acted amid rising tensions and concerns about safety in the area.

At the time, Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak explained that the restriction aimed to maintain law and order, protect lives and property, and support security agencies as they carried out their work.

Officials believe the situation has now improved enough to allow residents to resume normal movement using motorbikes.
