The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Yandoh, has made strong allegations regarding the handling of a case involving former GIHOC boss, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Paul Yandoh claimed that the head of EOCO, Raymond Archer, is demanding a bail sum of GHC55 million for the release of Maxwell Kofi Jumah.
He described the alleged amount as excessive and said it raises serious questions about fairness and due process.
According to him, if such a figure is accurate, it could set a worrying precedent in how bail conditions are set, especially in cases involving former public officials.
He argued that bail conditions should remain reasonable and not appear punitive before a court reaches a final decision.
However, there has been no official confirmation from EOCO regarding any such bail demand, and the agency has not publicly responded to the claim.
Paul Yandoh further alleged that EOCO’s interest in Maxwell Kofi Jumah is connected to an investigation involving metal equipment said to have been procured decades ago.
He claimed the materials were linked to the Aboaso Gas Factory project, which dates back to the era of Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, he revealed while speaking on Kessben FM.
He suggested that some of these items are now unaccounted for, although he did not provide documentary evidence to support the claim.
The Aboaso Gas Factory has long been referenced in discussions about Ghana’s early industrial plans, but details about its historical assets and inventory remain unclear.
As of now, EOCO has not issued any official statement addressing the allegations or confirming any connection between Maxwell Kofi Jumah and missing equipment from the Nkrumah era.
It is also not known whether formal charges have been filed or whether the investigation has reached a conclusive stage.
For now, the claims remain unverified, with no independent confirmation from EOCO or other official sources.
