Mahama’s appointee, Dr. Mary Awusi, the CEO of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, has threatened Apostle Eric Nyamekye over his recent comments about illegal mining, also known as galamsey.
Apostle Nyamekye had earlier raised concerns about how illegal mining is destroying Ghana’s rivers and water bodies.
He explained that the pollution is affecting church activities, especially water baptism in some communities.
Meanwhile, he also criticised the previous administration under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over how galamsey was handled.
During her interview, Dr. Mary Awusi strongly criticised his comments.
“He is a man of God, so we will forgive him, but next time he should not descend to that level. If he descends to that level to become a politician, we will deal with him on that level. If he is an anointed man of God, he won’t say what he said, because what he said is a highly political statement.”
She also questioned why he is speaking now.
“Was he not in Ghana when the water bodies were muddy under former President Akufo-Addo? Why is he commenting now that President Mahama is working to reduce the turbidity level? If he couldn’t speak then, he should keep quiet. If he wants to be a politician, we will deal with him on that level”
Her comments have stirred mixed reactions online, with some calling on the president to step in and address the situation.
