The police have arrested a 26-year-old man following an alleged attempt to steal an armoured vehicle belonging to the Ghana Police Service in Nkawie, located within the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti region.

The suspect, Ebenezer Frimpong, was captured during a dramatic chase reminiscent of a Rambo film, executed by a combined SWAT team of seven police officers along the Abuakwa-Kumasi road.

As reported in a police situational report referenced by myjoyonline.com, the incident took place around 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

Lance Corporal Joshua Denkyi, a service driver from the Formed Police Unit (FPU), was reportedly transporting the armoured vehicle with registration GP 1131 from Nkawie to the Regional Police Workshop in Kumasi for maintenance.

According to police accounts, the officer parked the vehicle near the Nkawie Market to purchase medication from a nearby pharmacy, leaving the engine running during this time.

Ebenezer Frimpong, who happened to be passing by, seized the moment, jumped into the driver’s seat, and drove off in the armoured vehicle, leaving both bystanders and the officer in a state of shock.

An alarm was promptly raised, leading to an immediate response from the Ashanti Regional Command, which dispatched a SWAT patrol team led by Inspector Benjamin Nartey, consisting of seven tactical officers, to intercept the stolen vehicle.

The pursuit, which lasted approximately 30 minutes, concluded in Mim, near Abuakwa, resulting in the arrest of the 26-year-old Ebenezer Frimpong.

The armoured vehicle has since been retained as evidence, while Frimpong remains in custody at the Abuakwa District Police Command.

Meanwhile, Frimpong has been transferred to the Ashanti Regional Criminal Investigations Department for further enquiries.
