Tunisia sack coach Lamouchi after heavy Sweden defeat

Tunisia have reportedly dismissed head coach Sabri Lamouchi following a heavy 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their latest world cup match.

The decision comes after a disappointing run of results that has left the Carthage Eagles struggling for form in their World Cup campaign. The loss to Sweden is said to have been the final trigger for the Tunisian Football Federation to act.

Lamouchi, who took charge with hopes of guiding Tunisia to a strong showing on the global stage, leaves his position after a poor record of results. Under his leadership, Tunisia managed just one win in five matches, scoring only one goal while conceding 11.

The full record during his tenure reads:

5 matches played, 1 win, 1 draw, 3 defeats, 1 goal scored and 11 goals conceded.

The team’s lack of attacking threat and defensive instability have been major concerns throughout the campaign. The heavy defeat to Sweden reportedly increased pressure on the coach, with fans and analysts calling for immediate changes.

In a swift response to the situation, former Tunisia coach Mondher Kebaier is expected to take over on an interim basis for the remainder of the World Cup campaign.

Kebaier previously managed the national team and is familiar with many of the current players, a factor believed to have influenced the decision.

His immediate task will be to stabilise the team, restore confidence, and attempt to salvage pride in the remaining matches as Tunisia takes on Japan on Sunday, June 21 in their second match.

However, Tunisia’s chances of progressing further in the tournament now appear to be in serious doubt.
