Thomas Partey joins Saudi Club Al Shabab on one-year deal

Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey has completed a move to Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab after arriving in Riyadh to finalise the transfer.

The 33-year-old has signed a one-year contract with the Saudi club as a free agent following the end of his spell with Spanish side Villarreal.

Partey joined Villarreal ahead of the 2025/26 season after leaving Arsenal. During his only season with the Spanish club, the experienced midfielder made 25 appearances across all competitions. Villarreal did not extend his contract, making him available as a free agent from July.

The move to Al Shabab will give Partey another opportunity to continue his career at a competitive level. The Riyadh-based club will benefit from his experience gained from playing for some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Partey began his senior career with Atlético Madrid and spent several years in Spain before moving to Arsenal in 2020. He made 130 appearances for the English Premier League club and scored nine goals during his five-year spell in London.
