“This isn’t a Champions League quality club” – Martinez slams Man United

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has reportedly criticised the club’s recruitment strategy and overall performance following their defeat to Atletico Madrid, questioning whether enough has been done to restore the team to Europe’s elite.

Martinez expressed disappointment with the level of investment in the squad, suggesting he had expected more from the club’s technical director in strengthening the team.

“Yes. I expected more from our technical director,” he said when asked about United’s squad investment.

The Argentine defender also challenged the tendency to place responsibility for the club’s struggles solely on managers and players, insisting that other areas of the organisation must be examined.

“You keep changing managers, but what about other areas? It’s easy to say coach, players, but we also have to look at others,” Martinez said.

Martinez was equally critical of the team’s display against Atletico, describing the performance as poor and suggesting it reflected the club’s current state.

“This isn’t a Champions League quality club,” he said.

Manchester United have endured a difficult period in recent seasons, with repeated managerial changes and significant spending failing to deliver sustained success.

United’s leadership will face renewed pressure to address the structural issues affecting performances as the club seeks to rebuild its competitiveness and return to regular participation among Europe’s leading sides.
