Sankara Nationals continued their impressive start to the UMB Division One League season after recording a narrow 1-0 victory over newly promoted Steadfast FC at the Yendi Youth Resource Centre.
Bawa Hafiz scored the only goal of the match in the 43rd minute with a superb strike to give Sankara Nationals the lead just before halftime.
Steadfast FC pushed for an equaliser after the break, but Sankara Nationals defended resolutely to preserve their advantage and claim all three points.
Meanwhile, Wamanafo Mighty Royals produced one of the weekend’s biggest results, defeating K.A.C Soccer Academy 4-1 away at Nana Konamansa Park for their second consecutive victory.
K.A.C’s James Abu put Mighty Royals ahead with an own goal in the 44th minute before making amends by scoring the equaliser three minutes after the restart.
Mighty Royals restored their lead through Clarence Don Bortey in the 78th minute before Osman Zakaria sealed the emphatic win with goals in the 88th minute and deep into added time.
In another fixture, newly promoted Berekum City FC secured their first win of the campaign by defeating Real Tamale United 1-0 at the Kurt E.S Okraku Technical Centre in Winkogo.
Hendrick Acheampong scored the decisive goal in the 71st minute after a goalless first half.
Berekum City held on for the win, ending their difficult start to the season and handing Real Tamale United a disappointing setback.
