Criticism motivates me to improve — Benjamin Asare

Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare says criticism and pressure ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup do not affect him, insisting that the comments rather motivate him to work harder and improve his game.

The Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper made the remarks in an interview while speaking about expectations surrounding Ghana’s national team ahead of the global tournament.

According to Asare, reaching the highest level of football naturally comes with criticism from fans and the public, but he remains fully focused on building his career and making Ghana proud on the international stage.

“No, it doesn’t bother me; it rather encourages me because not everyone makes it to this level,” he said.

The Black Stars goalkeeper explained that one of his biggest ambitions is to change perceptions about African goalkeepers by proving that they can compete at the highest level in world football.

“Personally, I’m okay and fully focused on my career. I want to build a strong reputation on the global stage so people see that Ghanaian and African goalkeepers are exceptional,” he stated.

Asare also stressed that he wants to achieve success not only for himself but also for his family, adding that he remains grateful to God for his progress in football.

The shot-stopper acknowledged that mistakes and criticism are part of the game, especially for goalkeepers who are constantly under pressure during matches.

However, he believes even the best players in the world face similar challenges.

“People will always talk, but that’s just their opinion,” he explained. “Even the world’s top goalkeepers concede goals against elite players.”

Asare’s comments come at a time when Ghana continues preparations for the World Cup qualifiers, with competition for the Black Stars’ number one position expected to increase in the coming months.

The goalkeeper has recently earned praise for his performances and growing confidence between the posts.

His calm attitude and determination have also impressed many supporters of the national team.

With Ghana hoping to make a strong impact at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Asare says he is ready to embrace both the pressure and expectations that come with representing the country at the highest level.
