FC Porto confirm sudden exit of Thiago Silva

FC Porto and Brazil legend Thiago Silva has reportedly left the Portuguese club with immediate effect, bringing an unexpected twist to what was already expected to be his final chapter in European football.

The 41-year-old defender only joined Porto in January 2026 on a short-term deal after leaving Fluminense, returning to Europe where he previously played for clubs including Chelsea FC, Paris Saint-Germain, and AC Milan.

His move to Porto was widely seen as a “final challenge” after an already decorated career spanning more than two decades.

During his brief spell in Portugal, Silva quickly became an important dressing-room leader. Reports indicate he helped guide a relatively young Porto defensive line and contributed to a successful campaign in which the club secured domestic silverware.

His leadership and experience were praised by teammates and coaching staff.

Silva’s time at Porto was initially expected to last until the end of the 2025/26 season, with an option for an extension.

However, fresh reports suggest the veteran centre-back has now decided to step away earlier than planned, leaving both fans and club officials surprised by the timing of his exit.

At this stage, Silva is believed to be weighing up two major options: joining another club as a free agent for a short-term role or retiring from professional football altogether.

Sources close to the player suggest family considerations and physical demands at the age of 41 are influencing his decision.

Regarded as one of the greatest defenders of his generation, Silva’s next move could finally close a remarkable career that included Champions League glory, league titles across Europe, and over 100 caps for Brazil.
