Portugal make Nations League history with win over Denmark

Portugal produced another impressive display in the UEFA Nations League, defeating Denmark 4-2 away from home to strengthen their position at the top of Group A.

The victory also saw Portugal reach 20 wins in Nations League history, moving them ahead of Greece for the most victories in the competition.

João Cancelo, Gonçalo Ramos, Vitinha and João Félix were on the scoresheet as Portugal responded strongly to Denmark’s two goals and secured all three points.

The result was particularly significant because Portugal achieved the four-goal haul without Cristiano Ronaldo, who was absent from the squad. It continued a strong run for the team despite the attention surrounding the veteran forward’s situation.

Ramos was among the standout performers, scoring Portugal’s second goal after Cancelo had opened the scoring. The Benfica forward has also continued to play an important role in Portugal’s attack, having scored in the team’s previous Nations League victory over Norway.

Portugal’s latest success maintains their perfect start to the current Nations League campaign, following earlier victories over Wales, Norway and Denmark.

The victory provides further evidence of Portugal’s attacking depth, with several players stepping forward to contribute goals in the absence of their long-time captain.
