Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has made history by becoming the most decorated German footballer of all time after winning his 36th major trophy.
The 40-year-old goalkeeper reached the milestone after Bayern Munich defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the 2026 Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on Saturday, August 22.
The victory gave Neuer his eighth German Super Cup title and moved him ahead of former Bayern teammate Thomas Müller on the all-time list.
Neuer has enjoyed an extraordinary career, spending most of his successful years at Bayern after joining the club from Schalke in 2011.
He has won 13 Bundesliga titles, eight German Super Cups, six DFB-Pokal trophies, two UEFA Champions League titles, two UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups.
His achievements also include the 2014 FIFA World Cup with Germany and the 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. He also won the DFL-Ligapokal during his time at Schalke.
The latest achievement adds another remarkable chapter to the career of one of the greatest goalkeepers in football history.
Neuer played a key role in Germany’s 2014 World Cup triumph and has also been recognised for his revolutionary style of playing as a goalkeeper, often operating outside his penalty area to help his team build attacks.
However, Neuer’s record-breaking moment comes as he approaches the end of his playing career. The veteran goalkeeper has indicated that the 2026/27 season could be his final campaign with Bayern, although he has not made a final decision.
His future will depend partly on his physical condition and ability to continue performing at the highest level.
