Florentino Perez revives Negreira corruption allegations

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has reignited controversy surrounding the Negreira case after claiming he plans to submit a major report on the matter to UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin during the UEFA Champions League final.

Speaking about the ongoing investigation, Perez stated that Real Madrid has spent the last three years working on a detailed file concerning the case, which he described as “the biggest corruption in football history”.

“I’m going to the Champions League final because Ceferin invited me. I’m going to tell him that I’ll be sending him a massive file that we worked on for three years about the Negreira case,” Perez reportedly said.

The Negreira case has become one of the biggest scandals in Spanish football in recent years. The controversy centres around payments made by Barcelona to companies linked to former Spanish refereeing official José María Enríquez Negreira.

Spanish prosecutors have been investigating whether the payments were intended to influence refereeing decisions during matches.

Barcelona have repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, insisting that the payments were for technical and refereeing reports and not for influencing match officials.

The club has maintained that there was no corruption involved and that they acted within the law.

Real Madrid officially joined the legal proceedings in 2023 as an injured party, increasing tensions between Spain’s two biggest football clubs.

Perez and several Madrid supporters believe the investigation raises serious questions about fairness and integrity in Spanish football.

UEFA has also monitored developments surrounding the case, although no final sporting sanctions have been announced against Barcelona.
