Kotoko admit struggles, promise new coach amid poor run

Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko SC have acknowledged growing concerns among supporters following a string of poor results and the absence of a substantive head coach.

In an official club statement signed by Communications Director Sarfo Duku Esq., the club admitted that recent performances have fallen short of expectations. The club’s leadership noted that they fully understand the frustrations of fans, particularly at a time when results on the pitch have been underwhelming.

“The board and management acknowledge the concerns raised by our supporters regarding the absence of a substantive head coach and the team’s recent poor results,” the statement said.

Kotoko’s recent form underscores these concerns. In their last five league matches, the Kumasi-based side has struggled for consistency, recording:

Karela United 1-0 Asante Kotoko

Asante Kotoko 3-0 Nations FC

Aduana FC 0-0 Asante Kotoko

Asante Kotoko 1-2 FC Samartex 1996

Medeama 4-0 Asante Kotoko

The run highlights three defeats, one win, and one draw, reflecting a dip in form that has intensified pressure on the club’s technical direction.

Despite the challenges, the club assured supporters that steps are being taken to address the situation. Management revealed that efforts are underway to appoint a substantive head coach whose philosophy aligns with the club’s long-term ambitions.

Kotoko also issued an apology for their recent performances, describing them as disappointing and below the club’s standards. The statement emphasized a commitment to restoring the team to its “rightful standards,” while calling on fans to remain loyal and supportive for the remainder of the season.

With crucial fixtures still ahead, the club’s response, particularly the appointment of a new head coach, could prove decisive in shaping their campaign and restoring confidence among their passionate fan base.
