Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández has reportedly given the green light to listen to a proposal from Manchester City as they consider him as a possible replacement for Rodri.
Manchester City have identified the Argentina international as one of their main midfield targets as uncertainty continues over Rodri’s future. Barcelona have made an improved €60 million offer for the Spanish midfielder, with City reportedly valuing him at around €80 million.
According to reports, City manager Enzo Maresca is particularly keen on Fernández and believes the midfielder would be an ideal fit for the role that could become available if Rodri leaves the club.
Maresca already knows Fernández well from their time together at Chelsea. The pair worked together during the 2024/25 campaign, when Chelsea won the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup. Fernández was an important part of the team during that period.
Reports now suggest that Fernández is willing to hear what Manchester City have to offer, although no agreement has been reached between the player and the club.
The next major step would be negotiations between Manchester City and Chelsea. The London club are understood to value the 25-year-old midfielder at about £120 million, meaning City would have to make a significant financial commitment to complete the transfer.

Fernández joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023 for a British-record transfer fee at the time and has since established himself as one of the club’s key midfielders.
Manchester City are keen to move quickly because Rodri’s potential departure could leave a major gap in their midfield. The club are also exploring other options, including Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi.
