Liverpool have officially parted ways with manager Arne Slot after a disappointing 2025–26 season that saw the club fall well short of expectations.
The decision was confirmed by Liverpool on Saturday following weeks of growing pressure on the Dutch coach.
Slot arrived at Anfield in 2024 as the successor to legendary manager Jürgen Klopp.
His first season was a huge success, as he guided Liverpool to their 20th English league title and became the first Dutch manager to win the Premier League. Many believed he was the right man to lead the club into a new era.

However, Liverpool’s second season under Slot turned into a major disappointment. The team struggled for consistency, suffered several defensive problems, and failed to challenge for the Premier League title.
Instead of competing at the top, Liverpool found themselves fighting to secure a Champions League place and eventually finished fifth in the table. The club also ended the season without winning a domestic trophy.
Reports throughout the season suggested that tensions were growing behind the scenes. Supporters became increasingly frustrated with the team’s performances, while criticism of Slot’s tactics intensified.
Media reports also linked the difficult atmosphere to disagreements involving senior players, including Mohamed Salah, whose future at the club remains uncertain.
In a statement, Liverpool thanked Slot for his contribution to the club and praised the professionalism he showed during challenging moments. Despite acknowledging his achievements, club officials said they believed a change was necessary to move the team forward.
Attention has now turned to who will replace him. Several reports suggest that former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola is the leading candidate for the role after guiding Bournemouth to a historic Europa League qualification. Liverpool are expected to move quickly as they prepare for a crucial summer rebuild ahead of the 2026–27 season.
Although Slot’s time at Liverpool ended in disappointment, he leaves Anfield with a Premier League title and a place in the club’s history.
