The victory was important for the defending champions, who suffered a 3-2 defeat to Upper West Region in their opening game. The result keeps Eastern Region in contention for a place in the next stage as they seek to defend their title.

Western Region, meanwhile, will have to improve their results in their remaining Group A matches if they are to remain in the competition.

In the other Group A game, Upper West Region continued their strong start with a 2-1 victory over Volta Region.

Collins Yamba put Upper West ahead in the 32nd minute before Volta Region responded after the break through Apetor Paris to level the score.

Upper West, however, regained the lead through Abdulai Bashit, who scored the winning goal to secure another three points for his team.
