Chelsea target Mac Allister amid Liverpool contract uncertainty

Chelsea is reportedly considering a move for Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister as they look to strengthen their midfield ahead of the January transfer window.

The Blues have identified the Argentina international as a potential target following Enzo Fernández’s departure to Manchester City during the final stages of the summer transfer window.

Chelsea have been alerted to Mac Allister’s situation at Liverpool and could explore the possibility of bringing him to Stamford Bridge in January.

The 27-year-old has two years remaining on his Liverpool contract, but uncertainty over his long-term future has increased after he revealed his disappointment at not being offered a new deal.

Mac Allister said in September that he was “very sad” after learning that Liverpool were not in a position to offer him an extension, particularly after teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch had renewed their contracts. He also disclosed that he had opportunities to leave Liverpool during the summer but chose to remain at Anfield.

Despite the uncertainty, Liverpool is under no immediate pressure to sell, with the midfielder contracted until 2028. Head coach Andoni Iraola has also made clear that Mac Allister remains an important part of his plans.

Chelsea, meanwhile, were unable to secure a replacement for Fernández before the summer window closed. The club’s attempt to sign Lamine Camara from Monaco fell through, leaving the London side looking for further midfield reinforcements.

Mac Allister, a 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina, joined Liverpool from Brighton in 2023 and has established himself as a key player at Anfield.

Any January approach would therefore depend on Liverpool’s willingness to negotiate and Mac Allister’s position on his future.
