Ghana’s Black Princesses suffered a disappointing start to the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after losing 3-0 to Ecuador in their opening Group C match in Poland.
The Ecuadorians made a fast start and put Ghana under pressure from the early stages of the game. The Black Princesses had an opportunity to take the lead when Agnes Yeboah’s effort was saved by the Ecuadorian goalkeeper.
Ecuador, however, quickly took control of the match and opened the scoring in the second minute. Ghana struggled to settle into the game as their opponents continued to create problems in the attacking areas.
The South Americans doubled their advantage in the 16th minute, leaving Ghana with a difficult task before the break.
The Black Princesses were dealt another setback when goalkeeper Najat Abdul Salam was forced to leave the game through injury. Precious Asante came on as her replacement.
Ghana tried to respond and reduce the deficit before halftime but could not find a breakthrough. Ecuador maintained their two-goal advantage as the teams went into the break.
After the restart, Ghana pushed forward in search of a goal that could bring them back into the contest. However, the team struggled to create clear chances in the final third.
Ecuador eventually added a third goal in the second half to complete a 3-0 victory and claim all three points.
The result leaves Ghana needing a strong response in their next Group C fixture. The Black Princesses will face South Korea on Wednesday, September 9, where they will be hoping to secure their first points of the tournament.
South Korea and France drew 1-1 in the other Group C match, giving Ghana an opportunity to revive their campaign with a positive result in their next game.
