Sports journalist and CEO of Aduana Stars, Collins Atta Poku has opened up about the important role he played in the development of Ghanaian youngster Eric Adu Gyamfi before the player’s breakthrough with the Black Starlets at the ongoing U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
According to Atta Poku, the talented teenager attracted interest from several senior high schools, including Asanteman SHS and Opoku Ware School, after his outstanding performances during the Milo Games.
However, the veteran broadcaster believed the youngster needed the right football environment to continue his growth and development.
Atta Poku revealed that he personally visited Konadu Yiadom Park to speak with the player’s coach and later met his mother to convince the family that joining Ebony Football Club would be the best step for his football career.
That decision is now proving to be a major turning point in the youngster’s journey as Eric Adu Gyamfi has emerged as one of Ghana’s standout players at the 2026 CAF U-17 AFCON in Morocco.
The young forward announced himself on the continental stage with a sensational goal in Ghana’s Group D clash against Algeria. Gyamfi scored Ghana’s second goal early in the match with a powerful strike that quickly caught the attention of everyone.
Although the Black Starlets eventually surrendered their lead and settled for a 2-2 draw, Gyamfi’s performance was widely praised by supporters.
His impressive display earned him the Man of the Match award, making him one of the breakout stars of the tournament so far. Many fans have described his goal against Algeria as one of the best strikes seen at the competition.
