Asante Kotoko have agreed to release head coach Eric Tinkler from his contract with immediate effect, bringing an end to his short spell in charge of the Porcupine Warriors.
The club announced the decision in a statement dated September 28, 2026, saying Tinkler requested to leave for personal reasons.
According to the club, both parties held discussions in an attempt to prevent the departure at this stage, but Kotoko eventually respected the South African coach’s decision.
Tinkler was appointed Kotoko’s head coach on July 17, 2026, ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season. He replaced the club’s previous technical leadership as Kotoko sought to rebuild ahead of the new campaign.
The 56-year-old arrived in Kumasi with extensive experience from South African football, having coached clubs including Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, Cape Town City, Maritzburg United and Bidvest Wits.
He also guided Orlando Pirates to the CAF Champions League final and SuperSport United to the CAF Confederation Cup final.
His time at Kotoko lasted just three months. He oversaw the opening four matches of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign, recording one win, two draws and one defeat.
Kotoko began the campaign with a 2-2 draw against debutants Debibi United, before beating Heart of Lions and drawing with Samartex.
Their first defeat came on Sunday, September 27, when 10-man Aduana FC secured a 2-0 victory at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Kotoko said the technical team will continue with the club’s plans under Director of Football Stanley Purl Menzo following Tinkler’s departure.
