Barcelona have completed an agreement to sign Croatia international goalkeeper Dominik Livaković from Turkish club Fenerbahçe.
The 31-year-old goalkeeper is expected to sign a four-year contract after Barcelona agreed to pay €2 million as a fixed transfer fee, with a further €2 million available in add-ons. The deal takes the total potential value of the transfer to €4 million.
Livaković had initially been expected to join Barcelona next season, with the club planning to loan him out during the 2026/27 campaign.
Under that plan, he would have returned to Barcelona in June 2027 to become the club’s second-choice goalkeeper after Wojciech Szczęsny’s contract expires.
However, Barcelona have now changed their plans and are considering bringing the Croatian goalkeeper to the club immediately.
Reports from Spain say Livaković is expected to arrive in Barcelona on this week for his medical examination and to complete the final steps of the transfer.
If the move goes ahead as currently planned, Livaković will provide competition for Joan García, who is expected to remain Barcelona’s first-choice goalkeeper. Szczęsny could move down the pecking order and become the third goalkeeper.
The signing gives Barcelona an experienced option between the posts. Livaković has played for Dinamo Zagreb, Girona and Fenerbahçe and has been Croatia’s first-choice goalkeeper at three World Cups. He became particularly well known for his performances during Croatia’s run to the 2022 World Cup semi-finals.
Barcelona have been looking for greater depth in the goalkeeping position, and Livaković’s experience could prove valuable as the club continues to compete on several fronts.
The transfer also represents a relatively low-cost investment for Barcelona, with the club paying only €2 million upfront.
