Woman and two children found dead in Dome flooding

A woman and two children have been confirmed dead after being found in floodwaters at Dome in the Greater Accra Region, following heavy rainfall that caused severe flooding across several parts of the capital.

The bodies were recovered after floodwaters swept through sections of the community on Monday, adding to the growing death toll linked to the recent downpour. Authorities have not yet officially confirmed the identities of the deceased.

The tragic incident occurred as many communities in Accra experienced widespread flooding after hours of continuous rain. Areas including Alajo, Kaneshie, Adabraka, Weija, and parts of the Mallam–Kasoa Highway were heavily affected.

Residents in these areas were left struggling as homes were submerged, vehicles stalled, and major roads became impassable. Many motorists were stranded for hours, while properties and personal belongings were damaged by the rising waters.

Emergency response teams and local authorities have since been monitoring affected communities and assisting residents where possible. However, accessibility challenges in heavily flooded areas have slowed rescue and recovery efforts.

Officials have once again urged residents living in flood-prone communities to take immediate precautions, especially when rainfall begins to intensify. They advised people to move to higher ground when water levels rise and to avoid walking or driving through moving floodwaters, which can be extremely dangerous.

The Presidency has also issued a public advisory, calling on citizens to remain alert, follow all official safety instructions, and contact emergency services using the national emergency number 112 in case of danger or urgent rescue needs.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has warned that heavy rains are expected to continue throughout the week, raising concerns about further flooding in low-lying areas of Accra and other parts of the country.

Authorities say monitoring and emergency preparedness efforts are being intensified as the rainy season continues, while residents are being encouraged to stay informed through official weather updates and avoid unnecessary movement during periods of heavy rainfall.
