U.S. Embassy announces temporary consular service shutdown

The U.S. Embassy in Accra has announced the temporary suspension of most routine consular services from July 20 to July 31, 2026, to facilitate scheduled facility maintenance.

According to a notice from the Embassy, services are expected to resume on August 3, 2026.

During the maintenance period, walk-in services for notarial services and Consular Reports of Death Abroad (CRODA) will be unavailable.

The Embassy stated that applicants who have already received email notifications indicating that their pending passports or Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA) documents are ready for collection may still visit the Embassy for pickup on Thursdays between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

It also mentioned that adult passport renewals submitted via the Embassy’s drop box will continue to be processed during this time.

The Embassy recommended that applicants seeking passport renewal services follow the instructions on its official website.
