University of Ghana to resume academic activities on October 19

The University of Ghana will reopen for the 2026/2027 academic year on Monday, October 19, following the suspension of industrial action by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).

Under the reopening arrangements, students are expected to begin moving into their halls of residence on October 19, while lectures will officially commence on October 26.

The university announced the schedule in a notice dated October 16, signed by the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Gordon A. Awandare.

According to the notice, the decision was taken by the university’s Business and Executive Committee at a meeting held on Friday, October 16.

The schedule also provides for the random allocation of residential beds on October 16, while orientation for newly admitted students is expected to take place from October 21 to 23.

University management has urged students to settle the required fees and complete their academic registration online through the Students’ STS portal or the DiGradsys portal, following the prescribed procedures.

Students have also been advised to comply with all registration requirements to ensure a smooth start to the academic year and avoid delays when lectures begin.

The reopening comes after GAUA suspended its strike, which had disrupted academic activities at the university.
