The Bono East Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects over a highway robbery on the Portor-Gulumpe Highway and recovered the full GH¢300,000 stolen from a businessman.
Police said the robbery happened on the evening of July 19, 2026, near the Portor Police Barrier in the Kintampo Police Division.
Investigators believe the victim’s driver planned the robbery by informing the suspects that his employer was carrying a large amount of cash.
Officers on duty quickly responded after receiving information about the robbery. They arrested Abdul Sadat Ali, 24, at the scene, while four other suspects fled into a nearby bush.
During questioning, Ali allegedly identified Samad Issahaka, 24, leading to his arrest and further investigations.
Police said the suspects followed the businessman from Offinso in the Ashanti Region before robbing him of GH¢300,000 using a toy pistol.
Counter-terrorism officers and the local patrol team later arrested the remaining four suspects and recovered all the stolen money.
The other suspects have been identified as Abdul Rahman Mashud, 21; Asigri Avoka, 25; Awini Stephen, 19; and Faisal Salifu, 26.
All six suspects are in police custody and assisting with investigations.
Speaking to the media in Techiman, Bono East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Shaibu Sadique-Osei, said:
“This was an inside job. The driver, knowing his boss was carrying that amount of money, conspired with five others to stage the robbery.
They used a toy pistol, but their intent was deadly serious,” DCOP Sadique-Osei stated. “We are pleased that our men on the ground acted with speed and precision. Crime will not pay in this region.”
