The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested two people after intercepting 192 compressed parcels of a substance suspected to be cocaine in Wa.
The suspects have been identified as 26-year-old Abdulai Isaac, a driver’s mate, and Iddrisu Kamaldeen.
According to the Police, the operation followed intelligence received about the movement of suspected cocaine from Kumasi to Wa through the Bole area.
Based on the information, officers mounted surveillance along the suspected route to track the movement of the drugs.
On September 6, 2026, Abdulai Isaac was intercepted at the ESP Bus Station in Wa. A search of his backpack led to the discovery of 192 compressed parcels of a substance suspected to be cocaine.
The Police subsequently expanded their investigations, leading to the arrest of Iddrisu Kamaldeen, who was described as one of the suspected customers in the alleged drug network.
Police said Kamaldeen admitted that he was a customer of Abdulai Isaac.
On September 14, officers from the Upper West Regional Police Command, together with officials from the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), conducted a field test on the seized substance.
The test was conducted in the presence of the two suspects, their family members and Police officers. The Police said the substance tested positive for cocaine.
The two suspects have since been remanded into custody by the court. They are expected to appear again on October 9, 2026.
Meanwhile, investigations are continuing as the Police work to identify and arrest other individuals who may be connected to the alleged narcotics trafficking network.
The Police have not disclosed the total weight or estimated street value of the seized substance.
