One person has been confirmed dead after an armed attack on a passenger bus on Saturday, 2 May 2026.
The bus, with registration number AS 4941-25, was traveling from Zebilla in the Upper East Region to Tamale in the Northern Region when it was ambushed near Nasia, close to Walewale in the North East Region.
The North East Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Robert Anibiik, confirmed the incident to media but said he could not immediately provide full details on casualties at the time.
According to eyewitnesses and early reports, the attackers emerged from bushes along the roadside and opened fire indiscriminately, forcing the bus to stop. Bullets struck the vehicle, killing one passenger at the scene.
Five others were injured by gunfire and shattered glass and were taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
The deceased has been taken to a local mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
