NPP’s Baba Amando granted GH¢30k bail

The High Court in Ghana has granted bail to Abubakar Yakubu, also known as Baba Amando, who is the Sunyani East Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This comes after he spent two weeks in custody following an earlier decision by an Accra Circuit Court.

The court set his bail at GH¢30,000 and required him to provide two sureties. He has also been ordered to report to the police every two weeks while investigations continue.

Yakubu was arrested on April 13, 2026. Authorities say they are investigating claims that he shared false information, behaved offensively, and made statements that could cause fear or panic.

His earlier detention on April 14 attracted public attention, especially as police stepped up efforts to understand what really happened.

So far, no official charges have been filed.

However, reports suggest that his arrest may be connected to alleged threats made against a judge at the Adentan Circuit Court. This has raised concerns among people in the legal and political space.

He is also accused of sharing insulting images of the President and some government officials.

The case is still under investigation, and the bail conditions are meant to make sure he is available to assist the police when needed.
