The Deputy National Protocol Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Frimpong, has revealed that the vetting process for aspirants in the party’s national executive elections concentrated on criminal records, dual citizenship, and other matters that could violate the constitution.
He stated that this process is not routine, as the committee applied rigorous standards outlined by both the party and national constitutions.
He made this announcement during an interview monitored by The Ghana Report with OTEC News.
“Aspirants had to be strictly scrutinized. The party has to ensure they have no criminal records, no issues with dual citizenship and other matters that may go against the constitution,” he remarked.
“The committee requested their documentations, including their CVs, because aspirants must be able to convince the committee they are capable of whatever position they are vying for.”
In the meantime, the NPP commenced the vetting of 47 aspirants on Monday, August 31, who are seeking various national executive roles in anticipation of the party’s forthcoming national elections.
This four-day process is scheduled to conclude on Thursday, September 3.
The initial group to present before the committee will include those contesting for National Chairman, General Secretary, and National Treasurer.
He emphasised that the vetting will proceed as intended until all 47 aspirants have been evaluated for the subsequent phase of the process.
