The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it is prepared to engage popular individuals outside active politics as it searches for strong parliamentary candidates ahead of the 2028 general elections.
NPP Director of Communications Dennis Miracles Aboagye said the party is already assessing constituencies to determine individuals who have the greatest potential to win parliamentary seats for the party.
According to him, the exercise will not be limited to current party members or experienced politicians, as the NPP could approach influential individuals in communities who may have never considered entering politics.
Speaking during an interview, Miracles Aboagye said the party is conducting a constituency-by-constituency assessment to identify candidates with the strongest prospects of winning.
He explained that the party would also consider former parliamentary candidates who contested the 2024 elections, particularly those who narrowly lost their seats.
Miracles Aboagye said internal disagreements and other constituency-specific factors would be examined when deciding whether previous candidates should be given another opportunity.
He noted that the selection process would vary from one constituency to another, with some areas having several capable contenders while others may require the party to persuade respected community figures to enter the race.
The communications director said the approach is consistent with plans announced by NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who has indicated that the party has begun identifying potential parliamentary candidates for 2028.
