The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region has raised concerns over the handling of promotions for teachers who passed the 2025 Ghana Education Service (GES) promotion examinations.
The party says some affected teachers are being denied part of the financial benefits they are entitled to, while others have reportedly received promotion letters containing incorrect information.
In a statement signed by the party’s Upper East Regional Communication Director, Dr. Samuel Akonga, the NPP said teachers sat for the promotion examinations on December 31, 2025, but had to wait until April 2026 for the results to be released.
According to the party, the affected teachers have since been waiting for the full implementation of their promotions and payment of the corresponding arrears.
The NPP is particularly questioning reports that the arrears are being calculated from July 2026 instead of April 2026, when the examination results were released.
The party argues that teachers who completed the promotion process should not lose their financial entitlements because of delays in processing their promotions.
It is therefore calling on the government and the GES to review the decision and ensure that teachers receive what they are legitimately owed.
The NPP has also raised concerns about errors in some promotion letters issued to teachers. It said some letters allegedly identify schools in districts where the affected teachers do not work, while others reportedly contain mistakes concerning teachers’ names and employment details.
The party is demanding an immediate correction of the affected letters to ensure that each teacher’s name, rank, school and other relevant employment information are accurately captured.
Dr. Akonga said the party’s intervention was not intended to undermine the GES or gain political advantage but to draw attention to what it considers legitimate concerns affecting teachers.
The NPP stressed that teachers play an important role in developing Ghana’s human capital and should be treated fairly in matters involving career progression and remuneration.
