Floods claim one life, another missing in Twifo Atti-Morkwa

Heavy rains in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region have led to two separate drowning incidents, leaving one person dead and another still missing.

The first victim was a 45-year-old man from Morkwa who was reported missing three days ago after the heavy rains. His body was recovered from the Pra River on Monday, June 8.

On the same day, another tragic incident occurred involving Alfred Kumi, a recent Junior High School (JHS) graduate from Gomoa Ohua in the Gomoa West District.

According to reports, Alfred went missing after entering the Osen River at Twifo Edugyaa to take a bath.

The young graduate had travelled to Twifo Edugyaa to visit his father and seek financial support to continue his education after completing the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) last month.

The District Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), James Pra, confirmed both incidents. He said one body had been recovered, while search efforts are still ongoing to find Alfred.

Mr. Pra also warned residents against engaging in illegal sand-winning activities along riverbanks, saying such practices create dangerous conditions and increase the risk of accidents and deaths.

“They are setting traps for people to die in rivers,” he cautioned.

He further appealed to regional and national NADMO authorities to provide life jackets and other essential rescue equipment to strengthen emergency response efforts in the area.
