Man slashes his manhood in alleged suicide attempt in Bono East

A 42-year-old cocoa farmer and basket weaver, identified as Kofi Assum, is currently receiving medical treatment after allegedly attempting to take his own life by slashing his manhood at Aworowa in the Techiman South Municipality.

The shocking incident, which has left residents of the farming community in distress, reportedly occurred under unclear circumstances.

Mr. Assum was found lying in a pool of blood shortly after the act, prompting immediate intervention by community members who rushed him for emergency care.

He was initially attended to at a nearby health facility before being referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Medical personnel are said to be working to stabilise his condition.

According to the victim’s mother, Madam Grace Adwoa Agyeiwaa, her son had, in recent times, complained of hearing persistent voices urging him to harm himself.

She noted that these disturbing experiences appeared to intensify in the days leading up to the incident, although the family had not anticipated such a drastic outcome.

A close friend of the victim, Mr. Collins Akumfi Ameyaw, described the situation as both shocking and heartbreaking.

He stated that Mr. Assum had not previously shown any visible signs of mental distress or behavioral changes that would suggest he was struggling with such severe internal challenges.

Authorities are yet to officially comment on the case, but it is expected that further investigations will be conducted to better understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
