Several passengers have been injured following a Kia truck loaded with yams colliding with a VIP bus in Osino, located in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region, during the early hours of Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
The accident took place around 4:30 a.m. near the entrance of the Osino Clinic, adjacent to the Misa Filling Station, along the Kumasi-Accra highway.
Initial reports suggest that the Kia truck, which was en route from the Northern Region to Accra, swerved into the path of the oncoming VIP bus after its driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel.
In an effort to prevent a head-on collision, the driver of the VIP bus reportedly manoeuvred off the road and into the Misa Filling Station. However, the truck still struck the bus, leading to the crash.
At the time of this report, no fatalities had been recorded.
Numerous passengers on the VIP bus suffered injuries, including bruises, head trauma, and various other bodily injuries.
The driver of the Kia truck is said to have regained consciousness following the impact and exited the vehicle.
Some of the injured individuals were transported to the Osino Clinic for urgent medical attention, while others were taken to the Osiem Hawa Memorial Hospital for additional care.
Passengers who sustained minor injuries or were unharmed remained at the scene, awaiting further transportation.
Personnel from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Ghana Police Service arrived at the scene to manage traffic and clear the yams that had spilt across the highway, facilitating the resumption of normal vehicle flow.
Authorities have yet to confirm the complete extent of the injuries and damage resulting from the accident, and investigations into the incident are anticipated to proceed.
