Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to Mahamudu Bawumia, has said he will soon reveal the names of top officials he believes are involved in illegal mining, known locally as galamsey.
During an interview on Wednesday, April, 29, 2026, Miracles Aboagye said that some people closely connected to the current government are deeply involved in illegal mining.
His comments raise fresh concerns that politics may be playing a role in the problem.
He explained that what he is saying comes from what he has personally seen. According to him, illegal mining is happening on a large scale, and those involved seem to act without fear because laws are not being properly enforced.
He believes this shows a bigger problem within the system.
He also questioned how excavators brought into the country are being handled. He claimed that authorities are not taking strong action and rejected the idea that these machines are being properly tracked.
Instead, he said many of them are simply returned to operators without accountability.
Miracles Aboagye warned that the damage to the environment is getting worse. He pointed out that many rivers across the country have been badly polluted or are no longer flowing as they should.
This, he said, is affecting people’s livelihoods and access to clean water.
He further accused the government of focusing more on making money from illegal mining instead of protecting the country’s future. He believes this will increase public debate about how galamsey is being handled.
“I will, in the next few days, mention senior members, very top, top officials, who are close to this government and are actively operating in the galamsey space in this country. Our river bodies are dying; some are no longer flowing, and others have virtually come to a standstill, simply because of this government’s actions,” he said.
